So we’re pretty fond of any excuse to celebrate the motherland.

Saturday, we’ll be celebrating along with about a thousand of our closest friends at the annual Maifest celebration at first street square in downtown Cleveland, which just so happens to be right outside our back door.

But if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also decided to introduce our 100% Kona, 100% made in the USA fresh crop coffee from the 50th state!

Not only do we now have it available by the bag, but you’ll get to try some excellent Kona coffees in some unique brew methods…

That all starts with  buying the highest quality green coffee from great farmers all over the world and ensuring that they’re earning a better than fair trade price.

What happens after it leaves our Roastery in Southeast Tennessee differs from one batch to the next; some of the coffees never leave the downtown shop before being consumed, some are served by great retailers, cafes, and churches, and still others are shipped to buyers across the country.

The more farmers we’re able to help the more we’re discovering the impact on another group…the U.S. consumer.

We all have choices to make when it comes to purchasing, but too often we choose based on price and convenience rather than impact and change, it’s not our fault, we’ve been trained for a long time to want the shiny rather than the sustainable.

So, Today we wanted to start something at our main downtown location to help further remind our local consumers of the difference we can make with every purchase. We’ve heard it called Coffee on the Wall, and Caffe Suspeso.

The idea is this, whenever you’re feeling especially generous or just got that big bonus, buy two cups of coffee instead of one, the second will be “suspended” and a coffee bean will be added to the tracking mug to tell how many suspended coffees are available. The next time someone comes in who can’t afford a coffee, we’ll take one of the beans out and give them a cup of coffee.

It’s a little thing, but an easy way to care a little more, we can’t change everything but we can change some thing, we can change this place…

The next couple weeks we want to highlight another group that is doing their part.

Race for Hope raises funds for innovative research and support services for brain tumor patients and their families.

BonLife is proud to support Team Lester, in memory of Anna Asher Lester who lost her fight with brain cancer on November 15, 2010. We want to give you the opportunity to join us in supporting the fight by drinking a better story. The weather is warming and the Patio furniture is back!

We also have more seating and free wi-fi at our Public Library Cafe, it’s a great study spot for those end of semester cram sessions.

But what we’re really having fun with lately is competition!

Drake and Jeremy were finalists in the first annual Chattanooga Coffee Throwdown a couple weekends ago, with Jeremy bringing home the win for Bonlife in the Brewed Coffee Category with his Chemex of Haitian Bleu, Drake also impressed with his Hario V60 of our limited release Panama Geisha Juliette.

Next up, Jeremy will be competing in the US Aeropress Championships at the SCAA event in Boston in April, come by the next few weekends and you may get to sample his special Cup of Excellence winning Columbian competition coffee as he works to perfect his Aeropress recipe.

    We’ve been hinting at it for weeks but it’s finally launched, our Kickstarter campaign is LIVE! Go check it out for all the details, but the basics are we’re going to create a mobile craft coffee bar and take it cross country on a road trip! Then we’ll bring it back to Chattanooga so you can have more chances to experience the Bonlife!

Because it’s a short month, and because we love the Sowden Softbrew (which you can also buy in our stores and on this site!), we’re carrying over our January method of the month!

We’re also working on some pretty special tweaks to the website and retail locations.

We’ve become one of just a handful of U.S. distributors for the Sowden Softbrew and to celebrate we’ve put it on the permanent menu at our Libary cafe, it’s also the method of the month at the downtown roastery. Look for it in our online store in the next few weeks!

Our efforts working with Haitian farmers to improve yields and quality are paying dividends, as proven by the January issue of Coffee Review, which gave our Haitian Single Origin coffee the highest score ever received for a coffee from the country!

If that wasn’t enough, our Library location has developed a great food menu to match our coffees AND our first ever commercial is coming out thanks to the efforts of our friends at Nine Line Productions, we think sharing it with you here is a great way to leave you for now…
