The V60 is always a BonLife staff favorite! We think this pour over method is a great way to taste new roasts. It makes a clean cup of coffee, filtering out sediment and leaving pure tasting notes. It’s also simple to brew and fairly quick! We often recommend it for customers who want to try one of our single origin coffees to go.

So here you go… the BonLife V60 Recipe:

What you’ll need:

  • 21g of coffee, ground medium to fine

  • v60

  • v60 filter

  • gooseneck kettle

  • 350g hot water, right around 200 degrees Fahrenheit

  • scale

  • timer

  • cup or vessel to brew into

What you’ll do:

  • Fold the V60 filter along the crease and open it up into a cone shape to fit down in the V60.

  • Preheat your V60 and rinse the filter by pouring some hot water through it.

  • Toss that water, place your V60 on top of whatever you want to brew the coffee into.

  • Place it all on the scale and tare the scale.

  • Add your 21 grams of coffee. Shake the V60 back and forth a bit to flatten the grounds.

  • Tare the scale again.

  • Start your timer and begin gently pouring the hot water slowly in circular motions onto the grounds. Pour about 80 to 100 g of water.

  • Swirl the V60 in a circular motion to wet all the grounds.

  • Let the coffee bloom until 30 seconds have elapsed on your timer.

  • Begin pouring the hot water again. Pour slowly in circular motions, keeping the water level in the grounds at about the same height. This should be a slow and steady process, taking about 2 minutes.

  • Pour until you reach 350g on your scale.

  • Let the coffee draw down. This should end at around 3 minutes.

  • Enjoy!

Making a great V60 is as simple as that! As long as you have well-roasted coffee, the right grind size, and water at the right temperature, this recipe will never fail you.

Just like the Chemex recipe, the V60 recipe can be adjusted to make an iced coffee! Simply brew it over 100g of ice, using 100g less of hot water. It’s really refreshing iced!
