BonLife Barista Spotlight: Hannah
Welcome to our new employee spotlight series where you get to know more about the people behind your favorite coffee!
First up is our lovely barista, Hannah!
Hannah is from Charlotte, North Carolina, but she lives in Cleveland, Tennessee now. She moved to Cleveland to study music at Lee University. When she’s not slinging coffee at BonLife, she also works at a local church as a worship pastor.
How long have you worked at BonLife? “9 months.”
Why did you want to work here? “Before I worked here I thought that BonLife had such a great atmosphere; plus I already had a love for coffee. I wanted to continue to grow my knowledge about the coffee world, and I was interested in learning what it looks like to roast coffee.”
What is your favorite part of being a barista? “The people! Sometimes working in the hospitality industry can be difficult, but I think it is also beautiful to meet new people and start relationships with people you meet— especially regulars. It feels so good to make a welcoming environment for others… Also I just love latte art! It’s one of my new favorite things.”
What is something you have learned from working at BonLife? “I learned that work can be more than just a thing you do to make money. It can be an enjoyable space with enjoyable people doing something you love. It’s easy to come into work because my coworkers are very authentic and relatable and so easy to get along with.”
What is something you want to learn, either at work or in your personal life? “Eventually, I want to learn to roast coffee. I’m very excited to learn about that process! In life… I want to better my understanding of people and emotions and learn to listen better. Everybody has a story, but I think often we’re too quick to ask questions instead of listen.”
What is your go-to drink at work? “Well you can never get too much drip, but I do love a good cortado!”
What is your favorite pastime outside of work? “Songwriting! It’s one of my favorite passions. If I’m not working I’m usually writing songs or playing guitar.”
