BonLife Barista Spotlight: Carter
We’re back with another BonLife barista spotlight! Get to know the staff behind the counter at our award winning cafe with our employee spotlight series. This time we’re talking to one of our newest baristas: Carter.
Carter is from Cleveland, TN— the home of BonLife Coffee Roasters. He’s a sophomore at a local university where he’s studying theological and biblical studies. He has worked at our cafe for just a few months now. We asked him some questions about his time at BonLife and what it’s like to be a barista.
What do you like about working at BonLife? “The atmosphere. There is a strong community feeling here.”
Why did you want to work here? “To learn more and grow in the coffee world. I was a barista at another shop for about a year, and I just wanted to be able to learn more.”
What is your favorite thing about being a barista? “Getting to talk to customers! I like connecting with them over their coffee preferences and learning what they like to drink. Sometimes you’re the first person someone will talk to that day, and, as a barista, you have the ability to either make that day great or bad.”
What is your go-to coffee drink these days? “Right now it’s a honey cinnamon latte which is a drink that I didn’t like at first. But I love it now because the cinnamon and espresso go so well together.”
What is something you have learned from working in the coffee world? “You really can make someone else’s day just by talking to them!”
What’s your favorite hobby outside of work? “Either playing the guitar or playing basketball.”
What is something you hope to learn? “I’m really working on this one latte art pour. Hopefully I’ll get it down soon!”
We’re really glad to have Carter as the newest addition to our barista team. His respect for other people is obvious in his work. We appreciate how much he values listening to customers, acknowledging others’ needs, and drinking a better story along the way.
