A Behind-The-Scenes Peek at Our Roasting Process
Join us in our roastery in Bradley County, TN for a peek behind the curtain: this is how we take the green coffee we’ve sourced from farmers around the world and carefully roast it into the delicious coffees you enjoy at home!
We put a lot of time and effort into roasting our coffees. We feel that the coffees we’re sourcing (from farmers who put a lot of care into growing their product) deserve a lot of care in the roasting process. Plus, we want them to taste as amazing as possible for you!
All of this time, effort, and striving to be the best pays off. We’ve won our fair share of awards for our roasted coffees, and every year we compete in or attend the world’s largest coffee roasting competition. But in our opinion, the most important payoff is when a customer falls in love with a new coffee or when we taste something that’s unlike any other coffee from that region we’ve ever tried or when an online customer emails us to tell us how much they like the coffee and ask if we’ll have it again. It’s in these moments that we know we’ve roasted the beans to coax out the best flavors.
Of course we’re not going to give away all of our secrets here: we have a competition coming up in February after all! But we wanted to welcome you into our roastery through these photos.
All secrets aside, our process is much like many specialty coffee roasters. We source our own green coffees. After we have cupped samples, we order the ones we like. They’re delivered to our roastery green (just the processed coffee seeds straight from the farmer). We take those green beans and roast them according to our recipe, in a way that we hope coaxers out the best flavors without under or over roasting.
In these photos you’ll see that process: from green, into the roaster, the coffees develop, we monitor that process closely, we drop the beans into the cooling tray, they cool in the cooling tray, we transfer it out of the roaster, we bag the beans, you order them here on our website, and you enjoy them via your preferred brew method!
We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our roasting process. As always leave a comment or send us an email if you have any questions for us here at BonLife!
