Welcome to the newest edition of our employee spotlight series! Get to know the newest barista at BonLife Coffee Roasters & learn about what it’s like to work at an award-winning specialty coffee shop.
How long have you worked at BonLife? Two months! But I’ve worked in specialty coffee for over six years.
Why did you want to work here? I wanted to work at BonLife because BonLife is specialty coffee, and, more importantly, they roast their own beans! It seemed to me that they really value coffee and farmers and specialty coffees.
What do you like about working in coffee? Coffee is a meeting point! I like that it is a meeting point of talking to people, working with taste, and working with a product that connects the entire world.
What is your go-to coffee drink? A single origin v60!
What is something you have learned from working in specialty coffee? I have found it very interesting that every culture has their own way of thinking about specialty coffee and what defines it. Every shop has different ways of doing things, and every shop values different aspects of coffee. It makes the coffee world interesting and diverse: I’ve learned that there is usually no right or wrong way, and there is so much room for creativity.
How many different countries have you worked in? Four! I’ve worked at cafes in four different countries.
What is something you hope to learn or grow with in coffee? I would love to learn how to roast next! One day, I would like to get into sourcing coffee too.
What is your favorite hobby outside of work? Cooking! Similar to coffee, it introduces me to flavors from around the world and shows me what other cultures like. I enjoy trying foods that are different than what I’m used to.
