It’s the Tenth Day of BonLife! During the Twelve Days of BonLife we have dropped daily blog posts to share with you twelve of our favorite specialty coffee products in hopes of making your holiday shopping a little easier. Today’s specialty coffee product is simple: ceramic coffee mugs! Who doesn’t love a new mug to add to their collection? We sure do here at BonLife, and we bet the coffee lover you’re shopping for does as well.
We talked about the benefits of travel tumblers and why they make the perfect gift on the First Day of BonLife. While we still stand by those stainless steel on-the-go tumblers being the perfect gift for some coffee lovers, maybe your loved one would prefer a classic ceramic mug to use at home.
Ceramic mugs come in all shapes and sizes: this is not news to you. From small to extra large, from black & white to patterns to logos to hand-painted to neon, you can find a coffee mug in any shape, size, or color for any person. We’re going to help you decide how to choose the perfect one with this guide.
Here’s what to consider when shopping for a mug for another person…
Size: do they drink a lot of coffee or a little? Do they prefer small mugs because they drink lots of little coffees all day? Do they prefer large mugs because they feel cozier? If you’re not sure, they might not have a preference. Use your best judgement; they’re sure to love the gift.
Design: consider your loved one’s favorite color or a pattern they love (like polka dots). If you buy them a cute mug with a design that reminds you of them, they’re going to be thrilled. Alternatively you can shop for mugs from roasters or coffee shops you know they love (like us!) or even from other destinations they love (like a national park or city they’ve visited). When it comes to design, it’s the thought that counts. Follow your gut to a coffee mug that reminds you of them and go with it!
Shape: maybe they have a preferred shape of mug and you know that. Cool! Seek it out! If not (and many people don’t) just look for a shape that’s interesting and you like. When it comes to the shape of coffee mugs, that includes the handle. Are you shopping for someone with large hands? Maybe don’t buy them one of those cutesy mugs with a tiny circle handle that only fits one finger.
Technical details: all we mean by this is whether or not the mug is dishwasher or microwave safe. This is a small but important detail! Some people hate hand-washing their mugs and want nothing more than to toss it into the dishwasher. Some people desperately need to microwave their coffee because they drink it too slowly. Read the fine print and choose accordingly.
At the end of the day, if you’re buying someone a coffee mug, they’ll be delighted. Chances are you’re tossing it into a gift basket of several other coffee items like specialty coffee beans. Good call! Mugs are simple, and, though we’ve provided lots of details above about how to shop for them, at the end of the day it’s simple: buy one that reminds you of the person you’re shopping for.
